At Least I Was Helpful

I playtested the CMU PuzzleQuest today, and it was actually a lot of fun. While I can’t disclose any specifics (since the actual event takes place in 3 weeks), I can say that we were the first to finish all of the puzzles, and I wasn’t completely inept in working toward the outcome.

My favorite moment of help was when we were working on an audio puzzle. One bit came up with a cool rock beat, but it was a bit ambiguous. “I don’t recognize this at all,” one of my teammates said. But then the lyrics kicked in…

A long time ago, we used to be friends but I haven’t thought of you lately at all…

“Veronica Mars!!” I shouted triumphantly. But all I got back were five blank stares. And once again I found myself to be the only person in the room who had heard of, let alone seen, one of the greatest shows on television.

“None of you have seen Veronica Mars?” I asked incredulously. “Don’t worry,” one of my teammates said. “What happens at PuzzleQuest stays at PuzzleQuest.” Apparently my cool factor had just plummeted with the group… but hey. At least I was helpful.

You’ve got it all wrong. It was THEIR cool factor that had plummeted. Veronica Mars is hands down the best show on TV right now. You tell ‘em. And tell ‘em that Vince agrees. That’ll convince them.

When I got the email from my blog that said Sarah had left me a (lovely) comment, I promptly replied told her I hate her (don’t freak out, this is common repartee for the two of us. We thoroughly hate each other, but in a good way). I thought it would be fun to share her comment back:

“Is it some kind of new candy bar? It sounds delicious.”

In other news, Sarah is being shunned by my blog. Starting now.

What do you think?
