Blog Spam

del.icio.us Digg Facebook

When I first started blogging, I was confused by all the options to moderate comments. I didn’t realize that blogs were actually targets for spamming… until I received 20 nonsense comments in 3 days. Gah. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to avoid it from happening in the first place? I catch all of them before they get published to the blog, but I’d like a way to block them entirely.

The conversation continues...

using wordpress? There’s usually a blacklisting method that people have used in the past. Also, I think the latest wordpress has an ability to prevent comment spam (robots usually just find the comment page and use that).

Since I am using an outdated version of b2 (the precursor to wordpress), I have a script that chops comments before they ever appear. So this script just prevents comments that have certain spammable words in them. Of course a few get through, but I delete them soon after!
