Back With A Moderately Loud Noise

I was chatting with my friend Jason a week ago, and he keenly pointed out that I hadn’t been blogging lately. And… it’s true. My apologies to my readers. If you have been getting bored in the down time, feel free to read his blog to fill the time. He recently moved down to Atlanta, where he has the luxury of not subtracting an hour off of the start times of television programs to convert them to central time. As a former Omahan, I can relate to the hassle this creates… especially since I’ve been moving back and forth between the timezones lately (I’m in Houston at the moment, but more on that later).

It seems that each television network deals with this issue differently. Some people just ignore it all together, like Spike TV. “It’s on at 9pm, now go away.” If our Central fans miss it because they turned on the TV an hour late, too bad. Quit being stupid. But TNT’s approach seems to be the most interesting. They’ve recently changed the look and feel of their program advertisements. They use three colors of text to say the name of a program and the date & time of the program. White is the color for the name of the program, a slightly darker white (hard to tell the difference visually) tells the date & time, and an obviously darker grey is used to say the time for the central time zone. As a Central Time Zoner, I appreciate that TNT is using their one element of visual typographic contrast to tell me the time of the program. Unfortunately, it’s hard to figure out where the program name ends and the rest of the date/time begins… but hey. What do I care? I’m a Central Time Zoner. Except… when I’m in Pittsburgh… crap.

Anyway, I’m happy to say that I’ve made it through the capstone project course from my masters degree! It’s officially over, and it’s like a huge weight off my shoulders. That means many things, not the least of which is a pick up in my blogging habits. Look for more as the days go on. Oh, and I’ll post a link to my portfolio page when I’ve added my project to the mix.

What do you think?
