Smashing Mag is a Few Days Late

The first iteration of the category subtitles on this blog wasn’t… ideal. I received a ton of feedback on it (including Vince’s subtle comment), prompting me to find a font that still had a certain decorative quality to it, but was still very structured and appropriate for what I was trying to achieve.

Smashing Magazine is always my first stop when I’m trying to find a font to convey a particular idea. Their style is always breadth over depth, and that’s exactly the what I need during a brainstorming session.

It was during one of these brainstorming sessions that I found Kepler, the font that I’m using for the category titles today. It’s far more structured than what I had to begin with, and the classic serif style really spoke to me.

Unfortunately, a mere three days later, after I’ve paid $29 for Kepler-Italic, Smashing Magazine releases their Free Fonts of the Month article for February, and one looked eerily familiar.

It’s not exactly the same, but for free it would have been close enough. Darn. I guess I was too hasty to change things up.

What do you think?
