More Nature Shots

At the risk of getting repetitive, I want to share some more of my dad’s awesome pictures from Hummel Park. I seriously went there so often when I was in Omaha and rarely had any good shots to take, so I’m way jealous of these. The one with the two fawns is especially cute.

Email Etiquette

I rely on my friend Lisa to help me in my transition to the “real world” after spending so much of my life in school. One of the things she was picky about was not emailing from my work email. “Work email is work property. You never know who’s going to be reading it, or what it could be used for, so just don’t put personal stuff there.”

I thought it was good advice. So imagine my surprise when I opened an email from another Microsoft employee (sent to a distribution list at the company) that said, simply, this:

Not when I’m the criminal on a drunken joyride at 140mph!

Back to Nature

My dad sent along some pictures that he took at the Omaha property which were way cooler than mine, so I thought I’d share them with you. If anyone wants to come with me to Omaha to scope out the wildlife, let me know!

Its a hummingbird! These guys move about pretty quickly, so capturing one was a feat.

Ominous Dentistry

“Microsoft may say that the soda is free, but you’ll pay for it in the end.”

I found a new dentist in the Seattle area (conveniently located around the corner from my office building), and that was how my first appointment ended. Many soda-related lessons for the new Microsoft employee. Drink tea and coffee instead… stains are easier to fix than cavities. If you do drink soda, drink it all at once… sipping over time leaves your teeth swimming in sugar and acid. And, most horrifying, cavity fixing doesn’t fall under the 100% coverage in my dental insurance.

Man, screw the Veronica Mars horror movie… going to the dentist does it for me. I had so much fun I think I’ll go back tomorrow.

Birthday Plans

I’ve mentioned to some that I’m going to Finland for my birthday this year to attend the Mobile HCI conference. I’m scoping out the social events today, and apparently there’s an interesting one on my birthday:

A guy chucking a mobile phone for over 90m

That’s right! It’s cell phone throwing, and the world record is held by Finland (or, rather, one of its citizens). What a fun birthday present to myself to break the world record! (Yeah, right.)
