In the hectic life that is grad school, I find myself struggling to find time to sit down and read a book. I have about 5 on my mini bookshelf (which doubles as my nightstand) that I’ve read three or so chapters in. I try to tell myself, “Tomorrow, when you go to bed, just read one more chapter.” But then you get bogged down, and sleeping sounds like so much of a better idea than reading… you know how it goes.
Anyway, one of the books on my nightstand is A Dedication by John Zaiss. My uncle got published somewhere around the 2004-2005 calendar changeover, and is really pushing his book. As stated above, I haven’t finished the book yet, but what I have read has been quite enjoyable. Admittedly, for the HCI addicts in the audience, it’s quite a departure from the books on usability and design we tend to stack on our bookshelves. But if you need something to take you away from the redundancy of everyday life, this is a good book for it.
I was reading my Dad’s blog (more on this later) and was surprised to discover that John is in Omaha today, and will be publicizing his book at the Book Worm in Countryside Village on Saturday, June 4th from 1pm-3pm. If my friends have time, and want to scope out the book (or meet my hilarious uncle), swing by for 10 minutes! If all else fails, ask him about the time he swiped the saki bottle from the sushi restaurant we went to last December. That’s a fun story.
Oh, by the way, if you want to read a bit of it, and maybe buy it ^_^ you should check out John’s website. Enjoy!
